Research

The Neurosurgical Innovations and Training Center is dedicated to advancing the art and science of neurological surgery through excellence in research and education. Our work focuses on developing new operative techniques in microneurosurgery, skull base surgery, vascular neurosurgery, and minimally invasive neurosurgery, as well as integrating emerging technologies, devices, and tools into surgical practice. We also seek to deepen the understanding of surgical neuroanatomy by combining intricate cadaveric dissections with advanced 3D visualization to enhance neurosurgical training and practice. Recently, drawing on our extensive experience, we have turned some of our focus inward—studying methods to advance the pedagogy of neurosurgery and surgical neuroanatomy education.

Current and former areas of research include minimally invasive and transtubular neurosurgery, surgical simulation and planning, surgical robotics, flexible endoscopy, flexible instrumentation, white matter navigation, 3D printing, virtual and augmented reality, and operative technique development in microneurosurgery.
